Little Hawks take on Cougars with Title on the Line

After dominating most of their competition all year, the girls basketball team can’t relax yet. Tonight the No. 1 Little Hawks take on the No. 7 Kennedy Cougars in Cedar Rapids. The Cougars are 11-2 and a victory tonight is crucial for the Little Hawks to keep dreams of a Division Championship title alive.

Keys to tonight’s game will be dominating in the lane, spreading out scoring and maintaining intensity on defense. City will rely on Haley Lorenzen ’14 for easy points in the paint, but Kennedy will likely do their best to prevent the ball from getting into Lorenzen’s hands. If this is the case, other Little Hawks will need to step up to get points on the board. Courtney Joens ’16 and Kiera Washpun ’14 will play crucial roles in running an efficient offense. Throughout the season the Cougars have shown balanced scoring amongst their players, so the Little Hawks will not be able to let up on defense either.

The game will begin following the sophomore game at approximately 7:30 in the Kennedy gym.  Lorenzen thinks her team has what it takes to remain undefeated on the season.

“We honestly just need to relax and play our game,” Lorenzen said. “We have to be intense and just ready to play, which I think we are. We just need to keep a lid on their shooting and play good defense. Everything else should fall into place.”
