With the first game just around the corner, the boys’ basketball team is working towards improvement for the 2014-2015 season.

Head coach Don Showalter expects his incoming seniors to take on a leadership role for the team and potentially make City High a championship school again.

For the first time since 2001, the Little Hawks qualified for sub-state playoffs, ending their season with an 11-12 record.

According to Showalter, the Little Hawks are focused on increasing their intensity this season.

“With the switchup of our offense, hard off-season practices and our practices being geared for competition, our players are constantly going at each other and are improving every day,” Showalter said.

Logan LaFauce ‘15 is excited for what’s in store this season, and he sees it as an opportunity for the team to prove itself.

“A big challenge is overcoming the stigma that we’re a below average team,” LaFauce said. “I really want everybody to try their hardest and have fun, but strive to win.”

Evan Grace ‘15 believes that if a team wants to succeed, they have to not only get along, but also view each other as family.

“We have no outsiders on our team. We’re all very close outside of practice and that really helps with our teamwork,” Grace said.

The 2013-2014 season ended with the loss of 12 seniors for City High. Showalter hopes that tonight’s jamboree will give incoming seniors and underclassmen alike early-season experience.

“It’s always good to start off with a jamboree every season, because it helps me understand our strengths and what we need to work on, as well as a hint for what the season ahead is going to be like,” Showalter said.
The Little Hawks will start their regular season schedule with the Hall of Pride game against Williamsburg on December 1st in City High’s Main Gym.
