With a new coach at the helm and a roster highlighted by swimmers Abe Eyman-Casey ‘15 and Andrew Parr ‘16, the boys swim team is looking for a future state title in Marshalltown on Saturday February 14th.

Eyman-Casey will be swimming the 100 backstroke and the 50 free and Parr will be swimming the 100 backstroke the 200 individual medley as well as the 100 backstroke.

Despite strong returning swimmers, the team has eight underclassmen in need of experience.

“We have a young team and it may take a little bit for us to be competition ready,” Eyman Casey said. “But I think come the end of the season, this team will show a lot of improvement.”

Zane Hugo replaces two-season head coach Ivan Sanchez for the 2014-15 season. Hugo is a former four-year letterwinner at the University of Iowa, and the coach for the City High girls’ swim team.

“It’s very early in the season but I really like Zane, it’s always hard to come in to a coaching position as an outside hire,” Eyman-Casey replies. “I think taking that into consideration, he has done very well.”

Parr thinks Hugo is exactly what the team will need.

“He’s young and relatively new to coaching but knows how to put a team together,” Parr said.
