4th Avenue Jazz Company placed fifth out of seven in the varsity group at the Cedar Rapids Prairie Premiere competition this past Saturday. This was their first competition of the show choir 2014-2015 season. Other schools included were Waukee, Kennedy, Johnston, West Liberty, Pella, Marion, Norwalk, and Xavier. The band won best varsity combo and trumpet player Joey Schnebelen ‘17 won best instrumentalist. The prep show choir City Lights placed 4th in the prep subgroup . The next competition will be held at Linn-Marr, where 4th Avenue was able to win to come in first place at last year’s competition. Katrina Scandrett ‘15, a member of  4th Avenue, thought they did a good job overall but still have a hard season ahead.

“I felt as though we did the best we could individually. The competition was extremely difficult. Overall we did a really good job even though we didn’t place how we wanted. Practice has already improved us.”
