Spread the Word to End the Word day is Wednesday March 4th.

The Spread the Word to End the Word campaign strives to raise awareness about the use of the “R-Word”, retarded, and it was started by a joint effort of the Best Buddies and Special Olympics organizations.
People go online to pledge not to use the word at www.r-word.org to show their support to both people who have intellectual and physical disabilities. They pledge not to use the word in their conversations and when they hear the word, to remind the person using the word of its implications and those affected.
Founded in 2009, the initiative has been active for six years, and this year’s theme is Flood the Media. Students plan on walking around the school with buttons on tomorrow to show their support for ending the word. Ask to take a picture with their pin and post it to Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #BBIAIChoose.

Your donation will support the student journalists of Iowa City High School. For 2023, we are trying to update our video and photo studio, purchase new cameras and attend journalism conferences.
