LH How To: How to Avoid Spring Break Blues
Feel like you’re the only one not going on a trip this spring break? You’re not alone. Whether it’s Mexico, Spain, France, Disney World, a cruise or a trip to the Everglades, it seems like my friends are going everywhere this spring break! They don’t realize, however, that those extravagant trips are no match for the fun that can be had in the great city of Iowa City. That is why I have put together these fun ideas and places to visit in Iowa City so that those of us who aren’t flying to Who-Knows-Where avoid the Spring Break Blues!
- SLEEP IN!
- Take lunch to the Res or Lake MacBride when it’s warm out- you can always pretend you’re on a real beach this way.
- Try a new restaurant – downtown Iowa City has great choices for eating out. Try out Mickey’s, Buffalo Wild Wings or Shorts, and then always treat yourself to a frozen yogurt at Yotopia.
- Rent movies – a $10 ticket at the theater is too much when RedBox has great choices for less than $2.
- Go star gazing – drive out to the country and look at the stars, so beautiful!
- Spend an afternoon downtown – the ped mall and Pentacrest can be very entertaining.
- Play Heads Up! with friends – if you can get a group together to play this game, do it. My group of friends love this game
- Check out the Spring Break DIY article that the Little Hawk posted for some fun crafty ideas.
- Go bowling/putt putt golfing
- Exercise – sounds painful, but it can be fun.
- Go shopping – this always cures any and all types of blues.
- Take an overnight to Des Moines or Chicago – get out of IC for just a little bit.
- Download new music – new music always helps!
- Get outside! We’re all really tired of being cooped up inside all winter long.
- Get a soccer game going on the turf – if not all of your friends left, try getting a group together to play a pick-up game.
- HAVE FUN! Just because you aren’t on a white beach in Mexico doesn’t mean you can’t make the most of your Spring Break 2K15. Get outside, make yourself get off the couch, and do something new! Iowa City has many fun things to do, this list is just the beginnings.
