The Odd Couple and Steel Magnolias Set to Take the Stage

For the first time at City High, two full-length plays will be performed over the course of three days. Steel Magnolias and The Odd Couple will open this weekend.

The Odd Couple, a comedy by Neil Simon, will open at 7:30pm Friday October 30th and close at 2pm on Saturday October 31st. The Odd Couple follows the story of two friends, Oscar and Felix, opposite in every way. When they move in together, chaos ensues and their friendship is tested. Ellis Fontana ’16 likes the simplicity of the story.

“Its a simple play,” said Fontana. “That’s what makes it compelling.”

Putting on two shows in one period of time comes with its challenges.

“Normally you get a whole week of tech,” said Fontana. “In this, we have two days and Steel Magnolias gets the other three. I think it was handled pretty well.”

Following the performances of The Odd Couple, Steel Magnolias will open at 7:30pm on Saturday October 31st and will conclude their run at 2pm on Sunday, November 1st. Steel Magnolias is the story of a close-knit group of friends working in a beauty shop. One of these friends is battling illness while she is pregnant. These friends encounter heartbreak and tragedy in ways only a mother, loving her child, could.

Students can purchase tickets at $6 for one show or $10 for both.
