Choir Holds Biennial Veteran’s Day Concert
November 15, 2015
On Tuesday, November 10th, crowds gathered in Opstad Auditorium to hear the City High Choirs sing in the Veteran’s Day Concert.
The Veteran’s Day Concert, a biennial tradition at City High, showcased the Little Hawk Singers, City High Chorale, City High Singers, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Select Women’s Ensemble, and Mannerchor. The concert featured music written in response to world and national conflicts. Dr. James Thompson, choral director, regards the concert as one of the most meaningful performances that City High holds.
“We live a lifestyle of relative comfort and freedom here in the United States, and sometimes we take that for granted. People that are in the armed services sacrifice a lot, and it’s a great opportunity for us to pay tribute to them,” Thompson said.
Thompson also believes that the concert benefits the students, and he encourages them to learn more about music through the experience.
“I love hearing the stories of students who said they were gripped emotionally during the concert,” Thompson said. “I think it really speaks to the power of music, and I love that it can touch our students and show them what [music] is all about.”
