The Iowa Community Credit Union is sponsoring a “Downtown Gingerbread House Competition” for the holiday season. The event will take place on Saturday, December 12 from 7pm to 11:30pm at the Holiday Tent located on the Black Hawk Mini Park at the north end of the downtown pedestrian mall. The cost is $40 per entry. Teams of up to four are allowed one hour to construct and decorate the houses.

Interested teams must pre-register online and choose one of three shifts to build their gingerbread house: 7pm to 8pm, 8:30pm to 9:30pm, and 10pm to 11pm. Only 30 entries will be allowed per shift.

Materials such as gingerbread house pieces, frosting, candy, and a box for transportation will be provided. Teams can bring additional materials, but houses must be 100% edible. Judges will award a $100 downtown Iowa City gift card for “Best Overall Execution”, and a $75 gift card for winning the “Most Creative/Inventive” category.
