Cop or Drop: CDG Converse
December 2, 2015
Comme des Garçons, French for “Like Boys” and written in Japanese as コム・デ・ギャルソン (Komu de Gyaruson), is a Japanese fashion label. Based in Tokyo and Paris, Comme des Garçons mainly produces apparel along with perfume and some accesories. Comme des Garçons has several popular lines including Shirt and Play.
While Commes de Garçons is focussed on apparel, its Play brand has collaborated with several brands over the years including Converse and Jack Purcell. By far the most popular collab is the Commes de Garçons edition Chuck Taylor. Here, the classic chuck taylor silhouette is updated with the ubiquitous CDG heart logo. However, the shoe is little more than a rebranding. In terms of comfort and wear, original Chuck owners won’t find anything new with the CDG collab. The CDG chucks are available in low and high top variants as well as several colorways including white, cream, and navy. At $110, the CDG Chuck Taylors won’t offer much to the casual consumer, but for fans of the brand and those looking to mix it up this shoe fits the bill.
