The Jazz Showcase will be going on February 13 at 5:30 and 8:00 p.m. in the City High cafeteria.
“Even when the lights go out we don’t stop!” said Mike Moehlman, City High’s band director. Last year, the lights went out on the show, but it didn’t stop the jazz or excitement of the evening.
This event features four jazz bands from City and South East Junior High. Guest artist, Joel Vanderheyden is a local sax player who plays professionally with his group Koplantno. A table sponsorship for $50 includes a table of 4 and a name in the program. Special Valentine’s Day packages are $20 and include candy, balloons, and sparkling juice. More than 48 City and 50 SEJH students are involved in this nonconventional jazz club performance. Tickets are available from Ms. Robinson in the music office and at the door.
The Jazz Ensemble also earned a Division I rating at the Iowa High School Jazz Festival.
“It would be great if more faculty and students could come see the (Jazz) band perform.” Moehlman said. “It is always great to see more support.”
