This morning, Pulitzer Prize winning author Nelle Harper Lee, passed away at the age of 89. Lee was best known for her novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, which highlighted issues of race in the South during the Civil Rights Movement.
Ms. Ali Borger-Germann, an English teacher at City High, was shaken by the news of Lee’s passing.
“I remember being so in love with her vision of childhood,” Borger-Germann said. “I was a freshman looking fondly on my elementary school years, and it was nice to see someone else doing the same.”
To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the most taught books in high school, exposing students to the conflict of the past.
“[Her books] were good in every way. It was fun to read and it was really revolutionary, especially for her time,” said Max Meyer ’18.
