Spread The Love Peanut Butter Drive Comes to an End
Over the past few weeks, the Iowa City Community Involvement (ICCI) group has been collecting peanut butter donations at City High for the Johnson County Crisis Center. The Crisis Center is often in need of protein-rich food like peanut butter and garbanzo beans. The ICCI decided on peanut butter because it appears third on the Crisis Center’s list of most-needed foods.
ICCI’s goal is to help the community through volunteering and to help students in grades seven through 12 find volunteering opportunities. The club was created by high school students from City, West, and Regina. One of the club founders, Lucy Wagner ‘17, has been advertising the collection of peanut butter along with other students through announcements and signs around the school.
“I think it’s incredible the amount of outreach. Going into it, we were expecting maybe 20 jars, but to get so much more was really cool,” she said.
All together, the food drive collected 48 of jars of peanut butter. Donations were delivered to the Crisis Center on Friday. City will not be accepting donations any more, but if you still would like to donate, you can drop food off at the Crisis Center, 1121 Gilbert Court in Iowa City.
Your donation will support the student journalists of Iowa City High School. For 2023, we are trying to update our video and photo studio, purchase new cameras and attend journalism conferences.
