State in Sight for City High Volleyball

Just last week the play-off pairings were released for state volleyball. City High has been matched up to play against Cedar Rapids Washington with the winner advancing to play against either Dubuque Hempstead, Dubuque Senior, or Waterloo West.

“I’d say our chances of getting to state are pretty good,” Shannon Stamp ‘17 said. “We don’t have very high ranked teams in our bracket and there’s no one that we haven’t seen before.”

“Every time we’ve played Wash this season, we’ve won,” Kenzie Ribble ‘17 said. “I think if we keep the momentum from beating wash and have the same energy when we play Hempstead then we can win and make it to state.”

City high has already played Hempstead two times this season. The first game resulted with a 2-3 loss for the Little Hawks. The second match was at the Dubuque tournament where the Little Hawks won 2-1 against the Mustangs.

“Hempstead is a good team and they’re going to be tough to beat but we’ve already seen them before and the last time we played them we won. We have a lot of history with them so it should be an intense game,” Stamp ‘17 said.

City will play Cedar Rapids Washington for the first round of play-offs on Tuesday, October 25th at City High.
