Black History Game Show Set for This Friday

January 26, 2017

This year’s I’ll Make Me A World in Iowa black history event is approaching. IMMAWII takes place over the course of several days in the last week of January leading up to Black History Month in February. Each day focuses on a different theme.

Every year, City High sends a team to participate in the Education Day. This year, despite a few obstacles, City High will be taking a team to compete in the Black History game show portion of the event.

“I like the challenge of the event and the hard work students put into it,” Elizabeth Rook, former team sponsor, said.

City High was almost unable to send a team to participate this year because the team was unable to find a school sponsor, there was nowhere to hold practices, and no one to accompany them to I’ll Make Me A World. And so Fred Newell from the learning support department stepped in to sponsor the team.

I was totally bummed to not be able to be a part of the Quiz Bowl team [but] this year it didn’t work for the iJAG schedule and I had to prioritize my work with the iJAG program,” Rook said.

This year’s festivities will be held at the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center in Des Moines, including Education Day on January 27th.
