LH MUSIC ALBUM REVIEW: More Life

Maya Chadwick, Reporter

I’ve been a fan of Drake since Thank Me Later up until What a Time To Be Alive. I tried to like Views, but honestly I couldn’t. I can say the same for More Life.

More Life is kind of all over the place. There’s songs like Gyalchester and Portland that have that classic Drake feel. Both, along with a few other songs on the album, use trap beats and have Drake rapping alongside featured artists. This is the Drake I’m used to, and enjoy listening to.

Many songs on More Life include some pretty interesting beats that have a pop sound to them, like “Passionfruit” and “Get It Together”. The songs are definitely interesting and show Drake’s talent, however these songs are quite different from what many OG Drake fans are used to. Along with pop and Hip-Hop sounds Drake also includes some very soulful sounding tunes, such as “Nothings Into Somethings”, “Teenage Fever”, and “Since way back”.

There’s no denying that Drake has lots of talent that shines bright on More Life, and it shows a new style Drake has been trying out since Views. The album contains many brilliant songs and features great artists such as Kanye West, Sampha, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and more. While it’s interesting to watch Drake evolve as an artist, it’s hard to let go of Drake’s older sound.

FINAL RATING: 3.5/10

BEST TRACKS: Since Way Back, Do Not Disturb

WORST TRACKS: Passionfruit,  Get It Together
