A Tough Battle Against Union, Lost

The City High women’s soccer team woke up bright and early Saturday, April 8th to face their opponents at Union High School. The first game of the season on grass–compared to their familiar turf–was eye-opening for the whole team. With the unevenness of grass and a slower pace, City was taken by surprise.

Kickoff was at 9:00 A.M. and City was sporting their black jerseys. The first half, City had the wind at their backs. The girls started out in a 3-4-3 formation as usual. The girls created many opportunities in front of the goal but the City High forwards were no match for Union’s goalie. The game was tied 0-0 at half time.

At the start of the second half, City seemed to have a lot more movement on and off the ball, but now with the wind against them. Union, now with the wind at their backs, was able to sneak two goals in behind City High’s goalie, Naomi Meurice ’19. Final score was 0-2 and City would go home with their first loss.

City High will take this early loss as a chance to learn and change as a team. They face Jefferson High School at Jefferson tonight, April 11. Kick off is at 4:15.
