Student Artwork Receives Recognition at Hani Elkadi Award Show
The annual Hani Elkadi Art Exhibit award show was held last night at the University of Iowa Community Credit Union. City High art teachers, Michael Close and Dan Peterson, submitted a variety of student work to be featured.
“We tried to take something from all of our classes,” Close said.
The show is named after the man who started it, doctor, artist, world traveler and longtime Iowa City resident, Hani Elkadi. An elementary art teacher at the time, Elkadi began the exhibit to showcase artwork by junior high and high school students from across the district. Awards are given each year by art teachers and Elkadi himself.
“It went great, we had three people win awards chosen by Hani,” Close said. “He’s great.”
These three students were City High’s Morgan Michalski 17’, Erin Kaiser 17’, and Bella Epstein 19’. A piece by Kathy Dix 19’ was also selected by Close and Peterson for the pair’s teacher’s choice award.
