The City High men’s varsity football team will once again fight for the chance to raise The Boot against West High School this Friday, September 15th.

The Trojans, 3-0, have dominated this season so far, scoring wins against Southeast Polk High School, Muscatine, and formerly 10th ranked Cedar Falls. The team is averaging 40 points per game, while only allowing 20. The Little Hawks are doing comparatively worse, with only 19.6 points per game, and allowing over 30 points. However, the Little Hawks still have their hopes up.

“[The Boot Game] is really big,” Coach Tim Casey said. “Hopefully we can play better than we have before, it’s a really great source of pride to walk by The Boot every morning, we’d hate to lose it.”

The Little Hawks are depending on their big offensive playmakers to make a difference. Bryce Harper ‘18, Zach Jones ‘18, and a semi-injured Davonte Foster ‘18 could make or break the outcome of the game, with City depending on them largely through their drives and well timed catches. But for City’s high octane offense to get on the field, their defense needs to get stops.

“[The team] has to play better defensively, I think that will really open up the game, giving us a better chance,” Coach Casey said. “They have had a tough schedule, and you know, I think we have as well.”

West High will be lead by Evan Flitz ‘18, who has thrown for over 350 yards this season.

The game will take place on Friday, September 15, at the City High field at 7:15.
