From pep assemblies to half time shows, oddly enough, many students don’t look forward to the game itself, they favor the drum-line.
Drum-line is the advanced group of percussionists in marching band who play snare drums, tenor, bass, and cymbals. These privileged percussionists are chosen through audition. After auditions, they begin rigorous and repetitive practice where they play every cadence and warm up routine countless times. This is to prepare for halftime shows and pep-assemblies.
“No matter what we might be doing, we’re always having fun,” tenor player Sam Buatti ‘13 said. “Being in drum-line is like being a part of a wolf pack. We always fight with each-other and mess around but no matter how often what, we’re still a pack. Sort of like a big family.”
When asked how he would be characterized in this drum-line family: “I’m like an Altoid,” Buatti said. “Small, white and curiously strong.”
The Drum-line we see today is slightly different than the one we will see in December. “Winter drum-line is more musical,” Buatti said. “Instead of cadences, we do songs with more melody then rhythm. Both seasons are still really awesome and winter drum-line this year will for sure be something you’ll want to come and watch.”
