Oceana Charity Seeks to Save the Ocean
Since 2001, Oceana has been the pioneer in ocean conservation efforts around the world, leading campaigns that increase our oceans’ biodiversity and better our ecosystem.
Oceana has many offices based around the world, and has recently been focused on passing legislation to keep the world’s oceans healthy. Just recently in September, Oceana helped Peru pass laws that help fight illegal fishing, and pushed the European Parliament to pass legislation to end overfishing in the North Sea.
Some of Oceana’s current projects include: stopping bait and switch, responsible fishing, and providing clean seafood to families all over the world.
Oceana’s programs are funded primarily through fundraising events, as well as many investors that help keep the charity afloat. In 2015, Oceana had a total of $39 million dollars in net assets, $29 million of which were used for their programs, while the rest was used for general and administrative costs.
Donations for Oceana can be made at the Oceana website, or help sponsor Oceana at the SeaChange fundraiser in 2018.
