A spectator of Friday’s girls basketball game against Xavier may not have been expecting to witness a record-breaking event. However, that’s exactly what they experienced. In the Little Hawks’ 72-46 win, their 13th consecutive of the season, Ashley Joens’ 18 put 25 points on the board. Those points added up to 1758— an amount that surpasses the previous career scoring record held by Virginia Johnson.

Joens will head to Iowa State next fall to continue her basketball career, but not before she fights for her lifetime goal of winning a state championship. Up next on the Little Hawks’ radar lies #3 ranked cross-town rival West High, tomorrow night at West.
