“KEEP YOUR ROSARIES OFF MY OVARIES” the sign on the first picture on this series.
I am writing to express a big issue with The Little Hawk posting a picture with that offensive sign. Just as, I’m sure the school newspaper wouldn’t post any signs with profanity or which are offensive to certain groups, I wouldn’t expect The Little Hawk to post a picture of a sign that is offensive to one religion.
I am a longtime feminist who supports causes such as women’s rights, LGBTQ, immigrants rights, DACA, among others. The sign on the picture is offensive to the Catholic religion. I believe if there were signs offensive to other religions they might not be placed in the school newspaper. First of all, the Catholics are not the ones driving the proposed changes in women’s rights, as far as I know, it’s the Evangelicals. Secondly, I understand the women that made the sign has her right to freedom of speech, however I feel that The Little Hawk by displaying a picture of that sign is unfairly targeting the Catholic religion, whether it was intentional or not. I hope you understand my concerns and you act upon it, please consider cropping the picture to remove that sign. And please also consider in the future not using any sort of religious symbol. Thanks!
