Michael Close, the digital art teacher at City, enjoys candy in art club

Teacher Appreciation Week: Michael Close

Michael Close is the digital art teacher at City and I think it’s fair to say everyone appreciates him. Michael is so chill he goes by his first name; it’s weird when someone says Mr. Close. One of my favorite things about Michael is that he trusts his students. Though a lot of teachers don’t give their students that much freedom, for example most teachers have an exact plan of what their students have to do that day, Michael will let students do their own projects if they have experience in the area.

In video production, for last month of the trimester Michael encourages students to make up their own movie ideas. Or, if you have taken the class before, you have the freedom of creating your own project for the entire trimester. Having a time in the day when you’re in control of what you’re making is so amazing. Though you’re still working and learning you feel extremely relaxed! Michael also realizes students are in other classes besides his own and will understand if someone might need an extension.

Michael is also accommodating. Earlier in the year, a friend of mine and I needed to make a large decoration for homecoming and he was totally fine with us working on it after school and using the art supplies. Overall, I really and truly appreciate Michael’s lenience, trust, and realness.
