Senior Column: Teagan Roeder
Contrary to what many may have thought, I did not pick the name, the mantle, “El Presidente”.
That honor goes to Mr. Leman, who started calling me that after my victory in the 2017 election. I did not expect to be as celebrated as I anticipated, with many people calling me the ‘best president ever’. That is one title I wish to reject in these waning hours. There was so much more I could’ve done if I was a bit more focused, bit more creative.
I used to think that I had made a lot of mistakes throughout high school, and yes I did make a lot of mistakes. I didn’t make all that many friends really until I was junior, I didn’t do any sports because I was lazy, I didn’t pursue academics as hard as I should’ve, I didn’t do many clubs outside of Student Senate and Interact.
But there is one thing I know that wasn’t a mistake.
It was coming out of my shell and making the people around the school happy. Even though I never picked the name—from what I’ve seen it made a lot of people happy just shouting “El Presidente” whenever I just walked down the hallway. I really hope what I saw is true- that I made people’s time here a bit better. Whether that’d be me randomly giving out muffins or tea, giving an impromptu speech, or trying to film insane film fest films. I just hope I did good during my time here at City High. I hope that ‘El Presidente’ made you happy at any point this past year. It has changed me for the far better- I can for sure say that.
If I had any words of advice for the remaining student body after my class’ departure would be the following.
When you are feeling good, make it last as long as possible. But when you are feeling bad- remember it only lasts for so long.
Be involved as much as you can. I cannot stress that enough. They do not lie when they say this goes by fast.
Wake up to do as much good as possible every day.
Farewell to you all- and remember- the Red Dawn will rise once more.
