The Cougar Invite, held at Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School, was the second invite of the girls swim season.

“I think [it] is a great middle of the season competition for us,” Coach Zane Hugo said. “It gives us variety in our competition.”

Starting off the diving portion for City were divers Peyton ‘20, finishing 17th, and Eva Packer ‘21, finishing ninth.

Trinity Sadecky ‘20 placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle going 2:02.33, a seasons best time, and second place in the 100-yard butterfly going 1:05.3. Trinity was not the only swimmer to swim seasons best, Alexa Fredericks ‘19 got a season-best time in the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke. Shaylin Brown ‘22 gots a seasons best time in the 100-yard breaststroke.

“It made that long long meet way more fun,” Fredericks said. “It’s more fun when the team does well and when you do well.”

Carly Weigel’s ‘20 takes third in the 50-yard freestyle, going 25.71 and makes City’s first overall win in the 100-yard backstroke. Rika Yahashiri ‘21 placed sixth swimming the 100 freestyle in 58.07. The relay team of Weigel, Yahashiri, Jesse Hausknecht-Brown ‘21, and Sadecky placed third in the 200-yard freestyle relay going 1:44.56. The same relay team took fifth place in the 400-yard freestyle relay going 3:58.96.

“We figured out some relay combinations that we’re going to use at the end of the year,” Hugo said.
