On Friday, March 8th, Mount Mercy’s Show Choir, Choir, and Jazz Choir preformed at City High School during advisory. Students that were involved with 4th Ave and Charisma Show Choir this year cheered loudly as Mount Mercy’s Show Choir opened the show with the song ‘This Is The Greatest Show’.

“I really liked the jazz choir at the beginning of the performance,” Lee Nguyen City High pianist said. “They had a couple of really nice soloists who were from the City High district in high school.”

Mount Mercy is an up and coming program and has grown quickly in the last three years. In 2016 their show choir consisted of just 8-10 people and has since grown to around 30 people. Many Mount Mercy students are involved with show choir while also studying other majors.

“Bringing groups like that it is just to get kids interested [in show chior],” Coral Director Greg Grove said. “Since there aren’t a lot of colleges that offer show choir I think that they’ll see that Mount Mercy is a very viable place to pursue show choir in college.”

Mount Mercy toured City high, Liberty, and other schools within the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City area to inspire kids to pursue show choir in college.
