City High Girls Swimming Loses to Linn Mar in First Meet of the Season
September 4, 2020
The City High girls swim team filed into the Linn Mar Aquatic Center on Thursday, September 3 for their first dual meet of the season amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The varsity team lost to Linn Mar 121-62 and the junior varsity team lost 103-30.
The two teams stayed on opposite sides of the pool and were required to wear masks up until their events. Swimmers placed their masks in plastic bags before their events and put them back on at the end of the race.
Although the future of the season is unclear, Amelia Lang-Fallon ‘23 enjoyed being able to compete for the first time in months.
“I think the nerves are bad, but also it’s always exciting because if you’re faster than you were the previous year or if you’re new to the team it’s a good atmosphere and it’s just fun, but also nerve racking,” Lang-Fallon said.
Because of COVID-19, the swim team has not been practicing and racing as much as it usually would, but Lang-Fallon is optimistic about the future.
“I’m excited for our team to really get to grow together,” Lang-Fallon said. “Since not a lot of people have been practicing, there’s lots of growing to do but it will be really good.”
