This past Thursday, the 11th of February, City High Men’s Soccer kicked off its year with an open play. The open play took place in the Mercer Gyms, attended by players who are interested in trying out for the City High Men’s soccer teams in the spring. It was stressed that masks must be worn at all times, and without a mask players would not be allowed to participate.

“I’m ready to get back into playing soccer, even during the unprecedented time of the global pandemic. Even though soccer won’t be the same as it was, I can still find a sense of normalcy and comfort in the fact that we’re having a season,” Vince Johnson ‘22 said. 

Last year, in the wake of the pandemic, soccer season was cancelled. This left Ben Horowitz ‘22 eager to get back on the field.

“Especially after missing last season I’m excited to play again, it will be fun to get out there with the guys,” Horowitz said. With as many as 30 players showing up to the open play on Thursday, Coach Jose Fajardo made it clear his expectations about COVID and the soccer season.

“Everyone needs to be responsible,” Coach Fajardo said.

Este pasado jueves, 11 de febrero, el City High Men’s Soccer arrancó su año con una obra abierta. La obra abierta tuvo lugar en el Mercer Gyms, a la que asistieron jugadores que están interesados en probar para los equipos de fútbol de la Ciudad Alta Masculina en la primavera. Se hizo hincapié en que las mascarillas deben usarse en todo momento, y sin una mascarilla no se permitiría la participación de los jugadores.

“Estoy listo para volver a jugar al fútbol, incluso durante el tiempo sin precedentes de la pandemia global. A pesar de que el fútbol no será el mismo que fue, todavía puedo encontrar una sensación de normalidad y comodidad en el hecho de que estamos teniendo una temporada, ” dijo Vince Johnson ’22. 

El año pasado, a raíz de la pandemia, se canceló la temporada de fútbol. Esto dejó a Ben Horowitz ‘ 22 con ganas de volver al campo.

“Especialmente después de perderse la temporada pasada estoy emocionado de volver a jugar, será divertido salir con los chicos,” dijo Horowitz. 

Con hasta 30 jugadores que se presentan a la jugada abierta el jueves, el entrenador José Fajardo dejó en claro sus expectativas sobre el COVID-19 y la temporada de fútbol.

“Todos necesitan ser responsable”, dijo el entrenador Fajardo.
