XC Girls and Boys Make The Cut to State

Record rains have been pounding Iowa with more expected in Fort Dodge before the state xc meet on Friday. 

“The weather we get is the weather we want, so if it rains we will go out there and do what we do.” Ani Wedemeyer ’25 says, one of the two freshmen competing in the girl’s state meet.

Preparing for the state tournament for City this week is Iris Wedemeyer ‘23, Rowan Boulter ‘22, Ani Wedemeyer ‘25, Lucy Corbin ‘22, Nina Kuhlmann ‘25, Tatum Frazier ‘22, Eva Reynolds ‘23. The girl’s team will be running against 14 other teams. They will be running in Fort Dodge on Friday the 29th at 10:30 am. 

“For me, state is very simple: do my absolute best for myself and the team, leave it all out there, and beat as many competitors as possible.” Iris Wedemeyer said in a recent interview. 

For the boy’s cross country team, Ford Washburn ‘23, Ammon Smith ‘23, Noah Carey ‘23, Truman Thompson ‘23, and Elliot Dunnwald ‘22, Sullivan Hall ’22, Parker Max ’22 will all be competing at State. State for the boy’s xc team is  Friday the 29th at 11:15 am in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The boys will be going against 15 teams and 19 individuals and will score 5 people. 

“I’m excited right now kind of nervous, but I think that our team has a pretty good chance of being top three in this.” Says Ford Washburn ’23.

The past year Ford placed sixth at the 2020 state meet with a time of 16 minutes and 11.2 seconds and is hoping to be in the top five as an individual.

This will be the first time both boys and girls qualified together since 2016. The last time the girl’s xc qualified was in 2019 while the boys qualified in 2020.
