Top Halloween Movies: Last Night in SoHo, Parasite, A Quiet Place, and The Shining

Parasite

With an astonishing 89% rotten tomatoes, Parasite is a cinematic marvel. This is no surprise that this movie is one of the best movies of all time. I find that many people who said that they do not like “Parasite” are not familiar with this specific type of genre, which is why they do not enjoy it as I do. “Parasite” takes place in present-day South Korea where the main character, Min (Park Seo-joon), pretends to be an English tutor for a very wealthy, upper-class family. He observes how the family functions and in his observations, he quickly finds ways to get the current housekeepers fired in order to replace them with his own family. He inserts his family into these positions, much like a parasite, hence the name. I would most definitely recommend this movie. This psychological horror thriller will keep you in suspense throughout the entire movie.

A Quiet Place

Whenever I think of an amazing thriller movie, without hesitation, I think of “A Quiet Place”. This movie demonstrates the importance of family and trust through dialogue and actions that are continuously made throughout the movie. John Krasinski beautifully portrayed a caring and admirable dad, while simultaneously solo directing the entire film. “A Quiet Place”, takes place in a present-day apocalypse. Monsters that have impeccable hearing are killing everything that makes a sound, this is especially hard for Regan, Lee’s daughter because she is deaf. As far as the characters and the viewers know, Lee (John Krasinski) and his family are the last people living on earth. With a solid 96% rotten tomatoes, this thriller-horror is definitely worth adding to your watch list.

The Shining

Based on the frightful book, “The Shining” is an all-time classic and one of the best movies in the horror genre. A young writer experiencing writer’s block Jack Torrance seeks the mountains with his family. But when his son starts to get visions, things in the Colorado hotel get very out of control. With a comfortable 84% Rotten Tomatoes, it is pretty easy to tell that the general audience loves this early 80’s movie. I would most definitely recommend this movie for any who does not mind the gore!

Last Night in Soho

Even though this movie had not come out yet, many people are dying to see what this thriller has to offer. This movie is set in the present day but the protagonist travels back in time to the ’60s to try to solve a murder. So far people have high hopes for this movie, but the Rotten Tomatoes day otherwise. Don’t get me wrong, 71% is still pretty good, but many people are concerned that this movie will be another cliche horror film. Many movie critics say this movie lacking in momentum, but as of right now we do not know/have public feedback because it has not come out yet. All in all, despite what the critics say, I think that we should give “Last Night in Soho” a chance because from the trailer, it looks really thought out and formatted satisfyingly.
