City’s First Girl’s Wrestling Team Takes a Trip to State

City High’s first-ever girl’s wrestling team is taking a trip to state in Coralville at The Xtreme Arena. The state competition is taking place Friday, December 21st, and on Saturday the 22nd. There are about 800 girls who are registered for the state tournament from schools across Iowa. 

The wrestling meet began on Friday at 10:00 am with weigh-ins beginning earlier in the morning. The championship matches on Saturday will start at 10:00 am and go until 2:00 pm. Finals will begin at 5:00 pm and will include 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th place matches at each weight class. This will include the podium ceremonies and a Parade of Champions ceremony that will take place on Saturday the 22nd at 4:40 pm. 

City High women’s wrestlers, Nina Kuhlmann ‘25, Nabi Emmanuel ‘23, Sydney Wilkes ‘23, Erin Anderson ‘23, Claire Brown ‘23, Sierra Pruessner ‘24, Mia DePrenger ‘22, Nina Peterson ‘25, Nicole Peterson ‘25, Kayla Moore ‘23, Sydney McCleary ‘22, and Brianna Lopez ‘24 are registered for the state tournament. There are twelve mats set up on Friday for the state wrestlers, 12 mats for the 10:00 pm -2:00 pm session on January 22nd, and four mats for the finals on Saturday at 5:00 pm.
