Boys Track Breaks Records and Wins Indoor State Championship

The City High boys track team won the 2022 indoor state championship.

Inside the Iowa State University’s indoor track the City High boys broke records and brought back a state championship.

“Our performance during our indoor season, especially the Indoor State Meet, proved that we are on track to have a very successful season,” Coach Moore said. 

Noah Carey ‘23, Ammon Smith ‘23, Truman Thompson ‘23, Ford Washburn ‘23 placed first in 4×800, achieving an indoor school record with a time of 8:08.23.

Ford Washburn also broke the indoor City record in the 800 at the Dubuque meet with a sub 2 minute run.  This placed him as a “blue standard” for the Drake relays.

INDOOR STATE TRACK RESULTS:

Matt Schaekenback ‘23 placed first in the High Jump (Score: 6-4).

Jovan Harris ‘22 placed first in the open 400 (Time: 50.37).

Taeshon McDaniels ‘22 placed first in Shot Put (Score: 55-0).

Akili Mattox ‘22 placed first in Long Jump (Score: 20-9.25).

Ford Washburn ‘23 placed first in the open 3200, acquiring a Blue Oval Standard (Time: 9:28.32).

Ammon Smith ‘23 placed first in the open 800 (Time: 1:57.92). 

Jovan Harris ‘22, Truman Thompson ‘23, Matt Schaekenack ‘23, Ammon Smith ‘23 placed first in the 4×400 (Time: 3:26.43).
