On December 3rd, 2022 the USMNT will face off against the Netherlands in a round of 16 matchup in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The teams both advanced from groups of similar quality opponents.  Kickoff is at 9 a.m. central time on FS1. 

Netherlands advanced from group A including Senegal, Ecuador and Qatar. USA advanced from group B with England, Iran and Wales. Netherlands topped their group beating Senegal and Qatar and drawing Ecuador. USA got second in theirs beating Iran and drawing both England and Wales. Although Netherlands are heavily favored to win by most sportsbooks the matchup may be closer than expected. After the Red White and Blues impressive performance against England showing that they are able to compete with the best of the best players. 

If America wants any chance of success, a few players will need to stand out. Captain Tyler Adams will play an important role in running the midfield for America standing out to analysts and fans in the group stage. Center mids Musah and Mckennie will both be key to how the game will play out, they have both played exceptionally in the first half of the group stage matches but seriously struggled with fitness in the second half. Coach Berhalter will need to step up and decide when to sub one or both of the players and who to replace them with.

Defensive mid Adams is not a stranger to playing against top-quality European talent as he plays for Leeds in the UK. Star Christian Pulisic will also be expected to play even after picking up an Pelvic injury against Iran. If the US is to win it will most likely be a narrow 1-0 win.
