Mr. Peterson’s Creative Take to a Positive Environment
Mr. Peterson never fails to create a welcoming, entertaining environment. I have taken at least one art class every trimester, this year and last year, and each trimester I look forward to that class. Art for me is an already likable subject; it’s relaxing and fun to experiment with new elements, but having Mr. Peterson as a teacher makes it even more enjoyable.
Every day when I walk into the art room, I’m anticipating a unique project. Last week, we created our own homemade scratch papers. We coated paper in colorful, waxy crayons, and then glazed over it with a solution of black acrylic paint and dish soap. Once dried, we got to choose an image to scratch out on the paper (I chose an armadillo). This project has been one of my favorites all year because there wasn’t really structure to it; I was allowed to choose anything to carve into the paper. I also loved this project because I’d never gotten to do it before! I have learned so many new techniques and possibilities in art class that I had rarely even heard of before, which I think makes the class really cool.
Mr. Peterson is accepting of everyone, always pushing students to do their best, even if they don’t particularly enjoy art that much. He is an amazing teacher, and his dog pictures are really awesome too.
