The evening before Valentine’s Day, City High Inclusion Club hosted its annual Valentine’s Day party. This is one of many parties throughout the year, including the back-to-school Ice Cream Social and the New Year’s party.
“We have a leadership meeting ahead of time. We talk about food, games, and who makes the posters,” Eli Foster ‘25, Inclusion Club President said. Foster has been a part of the club since he was a freshman.
Inclusion Club hosts activities for students with and without disabilities, aiming to foster a space where everyone can have fun.
“Seeing and assisting in creating a more inclusive environment for the students in school and outside is really fun. A lot of times they don’t have those opportunities.” Amelia Gordon, Club Sponsor said.
The club used to be called Best Buddies and there a student with a disability would be matched up with a peer. But, along with the change in name, City High Inclusion Club also has a new structure.
“It’s a little different now because we don’t have these pairs of matches. We did that on purpose to create a more inclusive environment for everyone so no one is getting left out,” Gordon said.
The Valentine’s Day party featured karaoke, coloring, and pizza. Students interested in getting involved should reach out to Gordon or Foster.
“[We meet] every week, usually Wednesdays during advisory,” Gordon said when talking about how to join Inclusion Club. “We try to do one party every single month outside of school.”
