The Little Hawk Men’s Wrestling Team sent eight wrestlers to State this year, and this is the second consecutive year that they have sent eight or more wrestlers to the Wells Fargo Arena. Last year the team sent nine wrestlers to State. Out of the nine last year, three won State: Cale Seaton ‘24, Gabe Arnold ‘23, and Ben Kueter ‘23. Seaton Arnold, and Kueter all wrestle or will wrestle at a Division I college.

This year, the team had two State Champions: Kael Voinovich ‘24 and Cale Seaton ‘24. Voinovich is committed to the University of Iowa and Seaton is committed to South Dakota State University. Seaton finished his career as a two-time State Champ in Iowa, and a four-time podium finisher. Along with those State Champions, City High had three other wrestlers on the podium with Kendall Kurtz ‘25 and Jake Mitchell ‘24 finishing in 8th, and Kael Kurtz ‘24 finishing 5th.

Kendall Kurtz, who came into this tournament seeded 14th, upset the number three seed in his run.

“I’ve learned to believe in myself at any point in the match, whether I’m winning or losing. I’ve improved so much over the past season,” Kendall Kurtz said.

Not only Seaton placed all four years of his career at City High, Kael Kurtz did as well. These achievements have helped them cement themselves as some of the

best wrestlers the school has had in years.

“I’m grateful for every opportunity that I’m able to compete and cherish all the moments on and off the mat,” Seaton said.

With all the seniors graduating who have placed or made State, the City High men’s Wrestling Team will look to depend on their younger talent from now on with underclassmen like Chris Davis ‘26 and Kendall Kurtz leading the team.
