The City High Men’s Soccer season will officially kick off at noon this Saturday, March 30th, against Marshalltown at the CR Prairie Tournament. The Little Hawks won their scrimmage against Regina last week 3-0 after two penalties and a chaotic corner kick goal. City’s defense was exposed a few times, resulting in big one on one saves from goalkeepers Ben Borger Germann ‘26 and Becket Roos ‘27. City will look to learn from the scrimmage and strengthen their offensive and defensive lapses heading into the regular season.
Although City are the favorites against Marshalltown they are not new to early season upsets. Last year the Little Hawks lost their opener 2-1 against Southeast Polk, and two years ago they lost an early game to Muscatine in penalties. This season the Little Hawks will look to change these early season failures.
“We’ve seen how important these early games are and need to make sure we start off strong no matter who we play,” said third year player Jack Dancer ‘25.
