The Little Hawks are looking for a week 2 rivalry win against the Liberty Lightning; they are coming off a week one loss to Joliet Catholic, 50-22.
The Little Hawks will battle for the Zeus trophy, home at Bates Field. The Zeus trophy (aka the Titan’s trophy) was first introduced in 2020. The trophy itself features Zeus himself holding a lightning bolt in his left hand and a hawk on his right shoulder. This will be the 7th meeting between the two schools, every year being a very competitive game.
With a very experienced offensive side of the ball, the Little Hawks have a senior duo in quarterback Bobby Bacon ’25 and running back Gabe Egeland ’25. Following a disappointing performance last week, Gabe is looking to stay healthy and show what he’s capable of against Liberty.
“I wasn’t as happy about my performance, but I’m looking to put up more yardage and score touchdowns for my team,” Egeland said.
Bacon had 233 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, and 3 turnovers. He is looking for a stronger performance in this week’s game against Liberty. “I’m looking to take care of the ball and capitalize on big plays,” Bacon said.
The Bolts are coming off a big win against West High, winning in shootout fashion 56-45. Liberty was a predominately running offense in their week 1 contest, running for 365 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Little Hawk defense will look to limit Liberty’s rushing and give their offense more time with the ball. The Little Hawks are 2-4 against Liberty and are looking to end a 2-game losing streak.
