After both teams started the season off 0-2, Ames High will make the 2-hour trip east to face off City High in a week-3 matchup for the Cy-Hawk trophy at Bates Field.
This rivalry should bring a good game with one of these teams finally walking away with their first win and getting their momentum going for the rest of the season. Even though Ames has yet to win a game, they have had a tough schedule up to par facing Waukee and Ankeny Centennial, who are both top-10 ranked teams.
Meanwhile, City High who is also coming off a loss to Liberty has also had a tough schedule facing two ranked teams, with that being Joliet Catholic Academy and Liberty High School. City High and Ames both have two of the toughest schedules in Iowa and show that they both want to face good competition and get better.
“I think the passing game should be there tonight; we’ve made changes and implemented more things to be dynamic.” Bobby Bacon ‘25 said.
The Little Hawks come into this game with 420 passing yards and 3 touchdowns in the air, which puts them in the lower half of offense production up to this point per Varsity Bound, and getting off to a better start offensively can be the early game changer for this City High team.
The Varsity game will kick off at 7:00 pm with a Little Hawk student section theme of Frat Out.
