Zach Meredith ‘25 is one of City High’s top golfers this season. This fall he has found himself helping lead the City High golf team to success with an 18 hole low of 76.
Meredith ‘25, now a senior, started playing golf his freshman year of high school. He quickly fell in love with the sport and hasn’t looked back since. He attributes lots of his motivation to his love for the game.
“Golf motivates me because of how much fun it is and how it’s fun when you shoot really well.” Being able to play a sport that you can play for the rest of your life only makes golf that much more appealing to many people. Meredith says looking back he finds numerous fond memories out on the golf course.
One of Zach’s favorite memories playing golf is shooting in the 70s for the first time. Meredith said, “This truly shows a lot of improvement from freshman year when I was shooting in the 100’s.”
This improvement was no accident, with numerous early mornings at the range, and hot summer days on the course. Zach says it takes him multiple hours of practice a day to be so good in season. Even on the bad days on the course Meredith says he comes back to the same thing, “Just focus and tell yourself you’re always gonna have bad days but you’re going to have a lot of good days. You can’t let the bad days define your golf game.”
Zach has shown that he can be a leader to the younger golfers on this team and always has a very positive attitude.
Despite placing 7th at the state tournament last year as a team, Zach Meredith is very eager to get another shot at it this year. This season the Little Hawks finished 3rd in the conference, and play at Ottumwa for a chance to go to state.
