The Little Hawks are on a roll this football season, having won 4 straight games to push them ahead in the rankings. The team has seen trophies won and nail biter endings in this roller coaster of a stretch where the Little Hawks have come out on top. Now standing at 4-2, they enter their toughest stretch of games yet.
First up on October 11th, the Little Hawks play the 4-2 Davenport North Wildcats. The past few years, the Little Hawks have beaten Davenport North handedly, having defeated them the past two years straight. Since then, the Wildcats have improved, with a D1 quarterback leading the way, Kazimir Rebarcak. This is an important game for the Wildcats that has playoff implications, and they will be bringing their A-game into Bates Field.
Next on October 18th, the Little Hawks travel up north to take on the Linn-Mar Lions. Linn-Mar is currently ranked #4 in the state amongst 5A teams as one of the toughest teams on the east side of Iowa. Last year, the Little Hawks upset Linn-Mar in a 30-0 shutout on a rainy senior night at Bates Field. With a chip on their shoulder from last year, Linn-Mar will definitely be a test for the Little Hawks.
To wrap up the regular season on October 25th, the Little Hawks play one of the most dangerous teams in the state on Bates Field; the undefeated Bettendorf Bulldogs. Both these teams played each other twice last year, where the Little Hawks won the first in dominant fashion, then the very next week in the playoffs, Bettendorf got their revenge in an 11 point win. The Bulldogs currently stand at #2 in the state, and it will surely be a huge finish to end the regular season for the Little Hawks.
The Little Hawks have really come together during this winning streak. Bobby Bacon ‘25 is top 5 in the state in passing yards with 1,264 yards. The running game has evolved big time with a three way rotation with Dawson Kahl ‘27 as the starter and power back, Gabriel Egeland ‘25 as the third down back and elusive back, and Dominic Salibi ‘25 as a utility player playing both running back and wide receiver. The defense has improved too, as they allowed under 10 points against Davenport Central, a season low. The Little Hawks look to keep the win streak going all the way into the playoffs.
