After coming in at #14 on the 5A volleyball rankings the Little Hawks look to end the season on a positive note in their last home game before entering the postseason. City High is coming off two close losses to crosstown rivals West High and CR Prairie and comes into tonight looking to tie the season series and avoid getting swept on the season by #10 Liberty.
Offensively, City High is led by freshman phenom Hazel Schluckebeir, who leads the team in assists with 428, averaging 6.7, on the season. Paired with Hazel is senior captain Emmy McComas, who leads the team in kills. On defense, the Little Hawks are led by sophomore duo Hattie Galloway, who has 47 blocks on the season, and her counterpart Kaitlin Loria, who has 22.
While the 5A region 3 bracket has already been released, City High is set to play Waterloo West in the semifinal for a chance to punch their ticket to the state tournament. Every game up to that point is important since momentum in high school volleyball is key.
The game time is set at 7:00 pm with a student section theme of pink out for Breast Cancer Awareness.
