Tofu is one of those foods that has incredible versatility; this recipe, with its tangy combination of ketchup and soy sauce, provides a delicious and satisfying flavor that is going to keep you coming back for more. I have been making this recipe for years and have it down to a science, and I am excited to be able to share it for other people to enjoy. It should be noted that the tofu recipe without sauce is the perfect crispy tofu recipe and can be deliciously dressed with a variety of sauces of your choice.
Tofu Ingredients
- 1 block of extra firm tofu (I like Old Capitol Brand)
- ½ cup cornstarch
- ¼ cup nutritional yeast
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
Sauce Ingredients
- ⅓ cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp sriracha
- 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp minced garlic (or powder)
- 1 tsp minced ginger (or powder)
Directions
- Cut the tofu into 1×1 inch cubes and put them into a medium or large-sized mixing bowl.
- To the tofu, add cornstarch, nutritional yeast, and salt; stir to coat each tofu piece.
- To the mixing bowl, add olive oil, sesame oil, and soy sauce, and then stir to coat.
- Once the ingredients are fully combined, put tofu into the air fryer (make sure each cube isn’t too close together).
- Air fry for about 17 minutes at 400, or until desired crispiness.
- Shake the air fryer basket halfway through to evenly cook
- Use the now-empty mixing bowl and combine all ingredients under the sauce ingredient section and whisk together.
- When the tofu is cooked to your desired consistency, add the tofu to the sauce and shake to coat.
- Scoop over rice and top with sesame seeds for a fun garnish; enjoy!
