To end the regular season, the Little Hawk men’s basketball team went 9-13 improving from last season. The team won five out of their previous six games to earn a home first-round sub-state game for the first time in five years. The team will play Waterloo East on February 24th. Waterloo East has a record of 8-12.
“I feel like we could have a better plan going into games and better preparation during the week, but I’m fairly confident that we can pick up a win on Monday and continue our season,” said Davion Luckett ‘26.
Luckett leads the team by far in assists averaging 4.6 points per game, with 102 on the season. The next closest is 33 assists. Other stat leaders on the team are Chris Watkins and Jaxton Schroeder leading the team in points per game each averaging 13.5. “Coach Vitense has been a big part of this season, and we have had a better season than last year. He was the one who really convinced me to play and it has been a solid season thus far,” Schroeder said.
Waterloo East is led by two seniors, Da’Shaundis Moore and Jeremiah Clark, averaging more than 15 points per game, with above 41 field goal percentage. Other than those two, the team has no other players averaging over five points per game.
“It’s been a wild ride, with a new coach, a new team, and a lot of new faces. But it’s been fun for sure, lots of memories and good times. I just hope we can come out with a win and keep the season going,” said Parker Sutherland ‘25
The game is at 7 PM in the Little Hawk Arena on Monday, February 24.
