Popular Utah-based cookie chain Crumbl has opened its first Iowa City area location in Coralville.
Known for featuring a weekly rotation of six to eight cookies, the franchise was started in 2017 by Jason Mcgowan and Sawyer Hensley. Now, Crumbl has over a thousand locations across the United States and sells almost a million cookies each day.
On March 28th, the opening date for the Coralville location, a line stretched outside the cookie bakery and onto the sidewalk of the surrounding strip mall. It seemed like there was no doubt that customers were hungry for cookies.
Inside, bakers mixed up batches of freshly baked cookies, while fans of the store were able to take pictures with Crumbl-themed props like a cardboard cutout of the franchise’s Classic Pink Sugar Cookie.
“I think it’s really cool [that the Iowa City area has a Crumbl location],” Grey Linley ‘26, who visited the Coralville Crumbl on Friday. “I really like the cookies–they’re really soft and sweet, and I especially liked the chocolate chip one.”
Crumbl would be happy to hear that Linley enjoyed the chocolate chip cookie. According to their website, the founders started the franchise because they wanted to create the perfect chocolate chip cookie.
Crumbl offers two sizes of cookies: large cookies, which are 4.25 inches in diameter and 600-800 calories, and mini cookies, which are 2.5 inches in diameter and 200-300 calories. Large cookies are sold in boxes of one, four, six, and twelve, whereas mini cookies can be bought in packs of three, six, or twelve.
This week, Crumbl’s cookies on rotation are Milk Chocolate Chip, Pineapple Whip, Chocolate Sea Salt Toffee, Strawberry Crumb Cake, and Ultimate Peanut Butter. In addition to the cookies, they are also offering the Cookies and Cream Brownie and Biscoff Cake.
By noon, Chocolate Sea Salt Toffee was already sold out at the Coralville location.
“I thought the pineapple [cookie] was really, really, good,” Ethan Lalumiere ‘25 said when he visited the store. “It tasted super pineapple-y.”
Crumbl is located at 2799 Commerce Drive, next to Walmart Supercenter and Kohl’s. It is open 8 AM to 10 PM Monday through Thursday, and 8 AM to 11 PM on Friday and Saturday.
