The City High men’s tennis team is coming off a very strong season last year. With their number one player, Abhay Anil, returning, many others such as Emmett Bottoroff ‘25 and Brendan Lestina ’25 are also back this year, making this City High team a force to be reckoned with. The City High squad is currently ranked 8th in the state for preseason rankings in the 2A class.
This is a team with multiple seniors who saw significant varsity time last year, and are accompanied by some younger athletes who are hungry to make a name for themselves. Will Feagler is just one of those hungry freshmen. Feagler is currently ranked 10th in the state and is looking to make a name for himself during his freshman season.
“We have very high expectations for this season [especially] with the new addition of freshman Will Feigler, and all the seniors are very eager and very motivated to get to state this season,” Lestina says. This determination is shared among the seniors as they look to make a deep run this year at state.
Senior Brendan Lestina saw lots of varsity time last year, and is looking forward to this year. Lestina went 7-9 in singles last year and is hoping to improve his record during his final high school season.
The Little Hawks will start off their season against Cedar Falls on April 10th, at 4 PM, at the UNI Tennis Facility. The team is very experienced and carries the skills to put City High tennis on the map. The sky’s the limit for the Little Hawks and this could be a historic year for City High boys tennis.
