Students wore orange on Wednesday, October 10, in honor of Unity Day, a part of National Bullying Prevention Month. On this day, students were encouraged to wear orange and be aware of bullying.
“I think that there has always been bullying in high schools.” said Andy Peterson ‘14.
However, the prevalence of bullying at City High is up for debate.
“Some students are loath to report bullying as they don’t want to call further attention to themselves,” said Hall Monitor Chip Hardesty. But he agrees that having Unity Day is a good idea, adding that “it is a good day for people to recognize the existence of bullying, and its impact.”
Rugo Gathua ‘13 disagrees: “I don’t really think that unity day will help make a difference when it comes to bullying. If there is any bullying at city high, people are aware that it is bad.”
Orange bracelets are being distributed in the Main Foyer, and students are encouraged to be mindful of bullying throughout the rest of October.
