As Landlocked Film Festival rolls around again, many new films, from feature-length dramas to 5-minute comedy shorts, the festival has something for everybody. These are some of A&E Editor Gabriel Basile’s picks for this year.
Set in the old West, Heathens and Thieves tells the tales of hired gunmen and drifters settling on a ranch. But when they suspect the Chinese owners of the ranch are storing hidden gold, the men take action to steal the stored gold. After being abandoned by his mother at a young age, Presely French grew up under his father and a small town militia called The Lodge. At 24, French’s father dies, which promotes French to act upon his desire to leave his town of Bucksville. French soon discovers that The Lodge’s new leader has a disturbing foreign agenda, solidifying his decision to leave. The Lodge isn’t happy about one of their ranks fleeing, and its members start to hunt down French. Ronal isn’t the most barbaric of barbarians, but when his village is attacked and destroyed, he’s forced to man up and take vengeance on his village’s attackers. Along the way, Ronal meets several unique characters that join him on his journey.
