This weekend the City High wrestling team will travel to Mt. Pleasant for districts. This tournament decides who will make it to the state wrestling tournament. There will be a total of 17 ranked wrestlers in the 14 weight classes. The eight teams are: Mt. Pleasant, Iowa City High, Iowa City West, Burlington, Keokuk, Ottumwa, Oskaloosa, and Ft. Madison.
“There are definitely some tough kids in our district, but I think that if I put in enough hard work and just try my best I will not be disappointed,” Alex Lemus ‘13 said. Lemus, a returning state qualifier has to go up against the third and fifth ranked kids in the state at 113 lbs.
At districts, only the top two place winners will advance to the state wrestling tournament with the third place winner as an alternate.
“We have some good wrestlers with great records and that have a really good chance to qualify for the last tournament of the regular season.”
